Your Ultimate Lauterbrunnen Itinerary: Camping Jungfrau Edition

In this guide, you'll find a practical 5-day itinerary for Lauterbrunnen and the surrounding region. Each day focuses on a different theme:

This allows you to choose the experiences that interest you most or enjoy a varied week packed with highlights. The order can easily be adjusted depending on the weather, and all destinations are easily accessible from the campsite.

Day 1: Waterfall Wonderland

Lauterbrunnen is famous for its spectacular waterfalls, and for good reason. On your very first day, you'll experience the thundering beauty of the valley's natural wonders. From gentle misty cascades to powerful glacier-fed falls, you'll witness the incredible force of water up close.

Morning

After admiring the Staubbach Falls from your campervan or rental accommodation, take a short walk to the waterfall during the summer months. Within about 10 minutes, you'll reach a gallery behind the waterfall, offering a unique view over the campsite and the village of Lauterbrunnen.

Late Morning

The Trümmelbach Falls, glacier waterfalls hidden inside the mountain, are easily accessible from the campsite either on foot (around 40 minutes) or by bus (around 10 minutes). Once there, a tunnel lift or staircase takes you to the roaring masses of water.

Afternoon

Enjoy a leisurely walk back from the Trümmelbach Falls to the campsite. Along the way, you'll be treated to views of numerous waterfalls cascading down the cliffs of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The route is also suitable for strollers.

Tip: The waterfalls are even more spectacular after a rainy day.

Evening

Back at the campsite, relax while admiring the Staubbach Falls. Enjoy a traditional rösti or fondue at Restaurant Weidstübli, or finish the day with a drink at the summer bar on the village square.

Day 2: Mountain Trails & Thrill Walks

Today it's time to head into the high mountains. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, you'll discover panoramic trails and breathtaking viewpoints. The Schilthorn, Thrill Walk and the car-free mountain village of Mürren showcase both the dramatic and peaceful sides of the Swiss Alps.

Morning

Take the world's steepest cable car, opened in December 2024, from Stechelberg to Mürren. Continue with the new Funifor cableway to Birg and then up to the Schilthorn (2,970 m). Enjoy stunning 360° views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, and have breakfast at the rotating Piz Gloria restaurant. Reservations are recommended.

Midday

Ride one station down to Birg and experience the famous Thrill Walk, a cliff-hugging pathway featuring glass flooring high above the rock face. Additional challenges such as a crawl tunnel, rope section, glass platform and metal grate walkway add an extra dose of excitement.

The Thrill Walk is free of charge. Due to ongoing construction works, temporary closures may occur.

Afternoon

Continue to Mürren and explore this charming car-free village with incredible views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. From here you can either:

• Continue to Stechelberg and return to Lauterbrunnen by bus
• Walk to Grütschalp and descend to Lauterbrunnen
• Take the train to Grütschalp and continue down to Lauterbrunnen

During summer, most routes can be completed on foot, allowing you to explore the region's hiking trails. In winter, some hiking paths become ski slopes. More information at our reception or online.

Day 3: Lakes & Life Around Interlaken

Today is dedicated to the two famous lakes of the Bernese Oberland: turquoise Lake Brienz and deep-blue Lake Thun. Between them lies Interlaken, the vibrant heart of the region. This day is perfect for combining nature, lakeside scenery and town life.

Morning

Travel to Interlaken Ost and continue by bus or boat to Iseltwald, a picturesque village on the shores of Lake Brienz. Enjoy a stroll along the lakeside promenade or visit the famous "Crash Landing on You" jetty, a favourite photo spot. Optionally, take part of the journey by boat.

Midday

Back in Interlaken, wander through the main street, browse boutiques and Swiss souvenir shops, or enjoy lunch with views of the Jungfrau. Adventure lovers can watch paragliders landing nearby.

Afternoon

Take the bus from Interlaken Ost to Lake Thun. At the Neuhaus lakeside area, you can enjoy a swim during warm weather. A stop at our partner campsite, Camping Alpenblick, and the Blockhus Bistro is also worthwhile.

If you still have energy left, ride the Harder Kulm funicular from Interlaken Ost and enjoy spectacular views over both lakes, perhaps accompanied by a beautiful sunset.

Day 4: Discovering Villages & Valleys

Today's pace is more relaxed. You'll explore traditional Swiss mountain villages, wander through flower-decorated streets, and enjoy beautiful viewpoints overlooking the valley.

Morning

Take the cogwheel railway from Lauterbrunnen to the car-free village of Wengen, known for its wooden chalets, flower-filled balconies and peaceful atmosphere. Enjoy the valley views from Mönchblick, stroll through the village centre and savour a coffee with a view.

Afternoon

Return to Lauterbrunnen and take the post bus to Isenfluh, located at 1,100 metres above sea level. From there, board the small nostalgic cable car to Sulwald.

Operating since 1975, the cable car accommodates eight passengers, or even a cow. Many locals believe Sulwald offers the best view of the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau trio.

Return to Isenfluh by cable car or experience the downhill ride on a Monster Scooter.

Evening

Take the post bus back to Lauterbrunnen and enjoy a relaxing final evening at the campsite.

Day 5: The Grand Finale – Top of Europe

End your trip with a true highlight: Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe, the highest railway station in Europe, or choose an alternative alpine adventure depending on the weather. It's the perfect way to conclude your journey.

1. Start at Lauterbrunnen Railway Station

From the campsite, it's approximately a 10-minute walk to Lauterbrunnen station. Depart before 8:00 a.m. if possible to avoid crowds.

2. Travel to Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg

Board the yellow Wengernalp Railway toward Kleine Scheidegg. The route passes through magnificent alpine scenery and offers outstanding views. Travel time is approximately 40 minutes.

3. Change Trains at Kleine Scheidegg

Transfer to the historic Jungfrau Railway, which winds through tunnels and mountain passages to Jungfraujoch at 3,454 metres above sea level. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes.

4. Arrival at Jungfraujoch

Highlights include:

• The Sphinx Observation Deck
• The Ice Palace with carved ice sculptures
• Access to the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps
• Shops, cafés and the Lindt Chocolate Experience

Tip: Temperatures remain cool and snow is present year-round, even in summer. Bring a warm jacket and sunglasses, as sunlight strongly reflects off the snow.

🚉 Public Transport

• The region is exceptionally well connected by trains, buses and cable cars, allowing many excursions without a car.
• Lauterbrunnen railway station is about a 10-minute walk from Camping Jungfrau.
• Bus routes provide direct access to attractions such as the Trümmelbach Falls and Isenfluh.

🧥 Clothing & Equipment

• Sturdy, non-slip footwear is essential, especially for hikes.
• Temperatures at Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn can drop below freezing, even during summer.
• Pack hiking shoes, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle and rain protection.
• Many fountains throughout the valley provide drinking water and are ideal for refilling bottles.

🕗 Best Time to Start

• Begin your excursions early to avoid queues, especially at Schilthorn, Jungfraujoch and Trümmelbach Falls.
