An Adventure Between Towering Rock Walls
This family-friendly excursion starts right in Bad Ragaz. From here, an idyllic, car-free nature road follows the wild Tamina River. The walk takes about one hour, although families with curious children may want to allow a little extra time. Along the way, picnic areas and barbecue spots invite you to take a relaxing break.
Good to know: A general traffic ban applies on the road to the Old Baths "Altes Bad" Pfäfers, which means that bicycles are also not permitted. If you prefer not to walk, you can take the Gorge Bus (Route 453) from Bad Ragaz railway station or a nearby bus stop. The bus runs hourly (except during the midday break) and takes you directly to the Old Baths "Altes Bad" Pfäfers in just 15 minutes.
A Stop at the Historic Old Baths Pfäfers
Before continuing to the spring, it is well worth visiting the Old Baths Pfäfers. Built in the 17th century, it is the oldest Baroque spa building in Switzerland. Lovingly restored, it is now a protected cultural heritage site.
The Old Baths Pfäfers features:

Into the Tamina Gorge
Not far from the Old Baths Pfäfers lies the entrance to the Tamina Gorge: a dramatic rock fissure approximately 750 metres long and 70 metres deep, through which the waters of the Tamina River thunder.
Steep rock walls rise on both sides, while the sound of rushing water accompanies you at every step. For children, a walk through this cool, mystical gorge is a true adventure. It is an exciting experience even on rainy days.
Admission to the gorge costs CHF 5 per person, a worthwhile investment to experience a natural wonder steeped in history.
The Source of the Healing Waters
Deep inside the gorge, reached by a short tunnel passage, lies the highlight of the excursion: the Tamina Spring.
Here, the famous thermal water emerges directly from the rock at a constant temperature of 36.5°C (97.7°F). In the 16th century, the renowned physician Paracelsus praised these waters for their exceptional healing properties.
As you approach the spring, you can already feel its soothing warmth while walking through the tunnel. It is a fascinating moment for both children and adults alike.
